Layers

Road Network, like all catalogs in the HERE Map Layers collection, organizes map data by several versioned layers. This data specification provides information on the Road Network catalog which contains the Navigable Roads and Traffic Restrictions layers.

A single catalog version number is assigned to the entire catalog. When HERE updates a catalog, its version number is incremented. Catalog layers and partitions can be retrieved by version while preserving consistency between all published content. This allows you to select and process only the data of interest, or to process only specific changes within a layer. For information on using versioned layers, see Layers in the Data User Guide.

Note

Some property definitions are of the generated anonymous type. For the purposes of readability, generated anonymous type property sets have been given titles based on the closest associated property within the documentation.

For example, chainsItems contains a set of generated anonymous type properties collectively referred to as chainsItems due to the set's relationship to the chains property (chainsItems from: chains + items).

Generated anonymous type property sets are introduced with text supplying the origin of the set's title, such as the following:

"Generated anonymous type: paymentCash from: payment + cash."

The Navigable Roads layer represents roads with their corresponding attributes. This layer publishes geometry for the center line of the road, and includes attributes to make the road navigable.

The following list describes some of the features included:

  • Street naming with related address range information.
  • Administrative referencing.
  • The From and To nodes (objects with geometry and attributes) to have the ability to create a road topology network.

The Navigable Roads layer can be used to:

  • Render the road network based on specific display attribution.
  • Build a navigable graph for the road network, with a focus on passenger cars.
  • Compute routes using basic and more advanced navigable attribution.
  • Perform location referencing logic against the HERE road network.
  • Track and trace / positioning against the HERE road network.
  • Provide location context for the HERE road network.

The following table provides the data source identifier as well as the link to the Navigable Roads layer in the HERE platform.

Traffic Restrictions layer overview

The Traffic Restrictions layer represents multi-link condition coding applicable to the Navigable Roads layer, and is used to model restrictions to specific maneuvres in the road network.

The Traffic Restrictions layer initially includes Turn Restrictions and Permitted Driving Maneuvres. Over time, additional multi-link restrictions can be added to the related layers. Examples of such restrictions are Gates or Bifurcations.

Traffic Restrictions usage

The Traffic Restrictions layer can be used to enrich the Navigable Roads layer with more advanced navigation content applicable to specific road situations.
